Thriving On Thursdays Sweater Vest Pattern

What you’ll need:

2000m fingering weight yarn
1200m C1
800 C2
4.0mm Tunisian Crochet hook
100cm cord
Scissors
Stitch Marker

Abbreviations:

TKS = Tunisian Knit Stitch
TPS = Tunisian Purl Stitch
TFS = Tunisian Full Stitch
RTP = Return Pass
CC = Change Colour
MC = Main Colour
PM = Place Marker
SM = Stitch Marker
STSLPST = Standing Slip Stitch
BL = Back loop
RS = Right side

DERTP1 = Decrease Return Pass 1 = Chain 1, yarn over pull through 3 loops. *Yarn over pull through 2 loops*. Repeat from * to * until 1 loop left on hook.

DERTP2 = Decrease Return Pass 2 = Chain 1, *yarn over pull through 2 loops*. Repeat from * to * until you have 4 loops left on hook. Yarn over pull through 3 loops. Yarn over pull through 2.

Notes:

This sweater-vest you can make however long you wish it to be.

When doing TFS, alternate where the first TFS is placed. The first TFS will be between the loop on the hook and the first stitch. On the next row it will be places between the first and second stitch.

This sweater vest is meant to be oversized. I wear a UK L/UK 16 so the 140 sts across is nicely oversized for me.

After blocking, 140 sts is 70cm/27.5 inches.

10sts is 5.2cm/2 inches.

Back Panel

Row 1 – Chain 110 (120, 130, 140, 150, 160). Pick up a loop in each chain. RTP.

Row 2 – Place 1 TKS, 1 TPS, *2 TKS, 1 TPS* repeat from * to * until last 2 stitches, place 1 TKS and end stitch. RTP.

Rows 3-10 – Repeat row 2. RTP (At the end of row 10, CC to MC when you have 2 loops remaining on hook).

Row 11 – TFS along. (First TFS, is between loop on the hook and the first stich). RTP.

Row 12 – TFS along. (First TFS is between the first and second stitch). RTP.

Rows 13-14 – Repeat rows 11&12. RTP (At the end of row 14, CC to C2 when you have 2 loops left on hook).

Row 15 – In C2 TFS along. RTP (CC to MC when you have 2 loops left on hook).

Repeat rows 11-15 26 more times. (For a total of 27 5row blocks and 145 rows including the hem)

Rows 146-149 – Repeat rows 11-14 CC to C2 at the end of 149

Row 150 – SC in C2 across. Bind off. Cut yarn.

Block back panel.

Front Panel

Repeat back panel rows 1-90. (This includes the hem ribbing)

Count stitches to the middle most stitch gap. PM

Right Shoulder

Row 91 – TFS across to SM. Place stitch in marked stitch. RTP

Row 92 – TFS across as normal. DERTP1.

Row 93 – TFS as normal. RTP

Row 94 – TFS as normal. DERTP1. CC to C2.

Row 95 – TFS as normal. RTP. CC to MC

Rows 96-149 – Repeat rows 91-95. DERTP1 every other row.

Row 150 – SC in C2 across. Don’t decrease.

Left Shoulder

Row 91 – Join yarn to marked stitch using STSLPST. TFS across place end stitch. RTP.

Row 92 – TFS across as normal. DERTP2.

Row 93 – TFS as normal. RTP

Row 94 – TFS as normal. DERTP2. CC to C2.

Row 95 – TFS as normal. RTP. CC to MC.

Rows 96-149 – Repeat rows 91-95. Use DERTP2 every other row.

Row 150 – SC in C2 across. Don’t decrease.

Block front panel.

Seaming

With RS facing out, mattress stitch shoulders of front panel to back panel.

Put on sweater vest, place a stitch marker where you want the arm holes to be. Make sure they are even.

With RS facing out, mattress stitch up the sides to marker.

With RS facing out.

Row 1 – STSLPST in BL. Pick up BL only around the armhole. RTP

Row 2 – 1 TKS, 1 TPS, *2 TKS, 1TPS*. Repeat form * to * until last 2 stitches. Place a TKS and an end stitch. RTP.

Row 3-4 – Repeat row 2.

Row 5 – SC across. Bind off. Leave a long tail.

With the long tail mattress stitch ends together.

Repeat for second armhole.

Neckline

Place a STSLPST into BL of first shoulder.

Row 1 – Pick up a BL in each shoulder row, pick up a loop across the back panel, pick up a loop in BL of second shoulder. (Don’t pick up a loop in centre marked stitch on the front panel). RTP

Row 2 – 1 TKS, 1 TPS *2 TKS, 1 TPS* repeat from * to * until 2 stitches left, 1 TKS and end Stitch. RTP

Row 3-6 – Repeat row 2.

Row 7 – SC around. Bind off and leave a long tail.

With the tail mattress stitch the collar together.

Weave in all ends.
