Ahhh finally! Finally I can share that I have finished the Grany Square Blanket that I have been working on for so long, so thank you for sticking with me while I have been slowly progressing. This has definitely been a slow burn project that has ramped up this year. I think I actually started this project about this time last year. I saw a beautiful creation by Nautikrall on instagram and I was inspired to do something similar. Back then I didn’t really know a lot about crocheting or about yarn weightings, so I decided to get myself a whole bunch of different blue yarns and a grey all in fingering weight from Birdstreet Yarn. I also needed to then find a background colour as well and that’s when I stumbled across Beehive Yarns and I decided on a black for the background and a sparkly black. I will be honest and say that one of the hardest parts of this blanket for me was stitching it together and the motivation to keep going.
The black squares were quite hard to stay motivated on because I had to make 117 of them. But I managed it in batches of ten and then would tally the ten up and take a break for a bit. But then came the stitching. The elation of finishing off all the squares was slightly squashed because I had to decide where I wanted all the squares and then the stitching them all together.
Here’s where I made a mistake, I should have watched and done the Join As You Go technique, but I completely forgot about it until I was a few rows deep and by then it was too late and I sure as hell wasn’t undoing what I had already done!
